Shepherdstown, West Virginia florist, Westvirjeni, reflects on 2016.
Westvirjeni started 2016 by joining Holly Chapple for her floral intensive workshop at Hope Flower Farm, becoming a part of the Chapel Designers. She learned how to make #hollyish bouquets and expanded her floral mechanics and design inspiration. She was connected to an industry renound group of designers and inspired beyond her greatest expectations.
Jeni Peterson of Westvirjeni and Misty Higgins of Moments by Misty wedding photography teamed up in early February to bring you winter wedding inspiration in Shepherdstown, WV at the historic Rumsey Monument. Gorgeous bouquets, an intimate table setting, cake flowers, and a floral belt were highlights of the shoot.
As always, in February, Westvirjeni was the favorite Shepherdstown florist, creating one-of-a-kind beauties for your special Valentine's sweetheart! Photos by Molly Humphreys, Piccadilly Posh Photography.
In March, Westvirjeni traveled to picture-perfect St. John, USVI to style and design a Caribbean destination wedding inspirational shoot, where she met her flower sister Jessica Aubain of Roses Too Flowers. With the help of her photographer bestie, Molly Aguilar of Piccadilly Posh Photography, Jeni and Jessica created flower magic, highlighting the natural beauty of the Caribbean while foraging from the local flora and fauna to create an exotic table scape, bouquets, wearable florals, center piece designs, and fun aesthetics to inspire 2017 brides who are looking to get married in the US Virgin Islands. Lettering and invitations provided by Jodi Mayo, of Mayo Post. Email Westvirjeni@gmail.com to learn more about having a destination wedding in the USVI during their 100th year anniversary. There are so many added bonuses if you get married this year as they celebrate their centennial anniversary!
As soon as she returned home from her Caribbean get-a-way, Westvirjeni resumed her normal wedding schedule. The first big east coast event of the year was Dana and Dante's beautiful spring wedding at Belmont Country Club in Northern Virginia. It was the ideal mix of classic and contemporary, and the flowers were some of Jeni's favorite of 2016. Photos by George Street Photo.
A big 2016 highlight was meeting Cynthia Rowley and providing florals for her furniture line debut at Belfort Furniture.
Westvirjeni was introduced to Shannon Larson of Sweet Caroline Photography. They instantly connected on an artistic and aesthetic level. Below is one of their first styled shoots at Stone Tower Winery in Leesburg, VA.
And a fun impromptu inspirational shoot with Shannon and Jade by the Potomac river...
And then came Anna and Paul's wedding at Fruit Hill Farm in historic Shepherdstown with photography by Pangtography.
In early June, Westvirjeni provided florals for the National Geographic fundraiser to Save-the-Rhinos at Stone Tower Winery.
The second weekend of June was a busy one with two big weddings on the same day. Ashley had a beautiful barn wedding at The Barn at York Hill in Shenandoah Junction, while Allie celebrated nearby in Shepherdstown at McMurran Farm.

Rachel and Tim were married at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club in Annapolis, MD. They had a nautical themed ceremony and reception with bright colors including; peonies, stock, snapdragons, ranunculus, roses, and thistle.
The Jubach's were married in July at Green Meadows Petting Farm in Ijamsville, MD. They had an unplugged ceremony in the barn, with 40 feet of floral garland framing their nuptials. Guests dined on farm-to-table cuisine, which was the overall theme of the day. Even the bouquet and flowers included edibles like wine berries, rainbow chard, artichokes, and tomatoes. As she thinks back to the summer, Jeni recalls, "August 13th was the hottest Saturday of the summer and we had 3 weddings and Identity Crisis. Thanks goodness Jess flew in from St. Thomas to help me!"

The Pint Sized Baker joined Jeni in the Westvirjeni gardens in mid-September. Beautiful, edible blooms were used to decorate a yummy chocolate on chocolate 4-layer cake.
Throughout the late summer and fall, Westvirjeni provided Moments by Misty with bridal bouquets for bridal portrait sessions. Below are two favorites, with most of the flowers cut from the Westvirjeni gardens!
Indian summer is a favorite time in the Westvirjeni gardens. Jeni and Sweet Caroline Photography collaborated to showcase unique wearable florals and flower crowns amongst the bountiful beauty of the thriving gardens.
In October, Jeni hosted Shepherdstown native and fellow florist, Esme, who came to town for her gorgeous baby sister's wedding. Esme designed and styled the wedding of her sisters dreams and Jeni helped as a freelance designer. It was beautiful and captured by the incredibly talented Pang of Pangtography.
"October was a whirlwind of weddings and the crazy life we live. I'm hoping I never have a month like that again, but I know now that whatever comes my way, I can handle it and people are there to support me. I am so grateful for the help from Crystal and Ashley the second week of October. <3"
The silver lining of October--Flowerstock at Hope Flower Farm. I was able to play flowers and mingle with peers and industry superstars. The weather was beautiful and Hope was the perfect place to host this event.
In November, Jeni met the new owner of one of her favorite historic Shepherdstown homes and wedding venues. Jay and Carolyn of Wild Goose farm hosted an open house to showcase the event venue and Westvirjeni provided florals. Pictures below by Rachel Langhorn.
For Thanksgiving, B. Vintage hosted a Westvirjeni workshop at their Charles Town studio. Attendees made their own centerpiece and learned helpful table styling tips.
Winter whites are perfect for a bridal bouquet. Below is a bouquet from a December wedding at The Purple Iris in Martinsburg, WV.
December was busy with numerous Westvirjeni workshops and the wreath bar.
Right before Christmas, Jeni escaped once again to the beautiful Virgin Islands, to help Jess with Roses Too with a five-wedding weekend and some other big events. They worked liked crazy but had a blast!
And then just like that, Christmas came and went along with 2016. Thank you to everyone who was a part of it! xx
